Our Vision

Dramatic Arts Laboratory (DAL) is a new English speaking theatre initiative based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is grounded in the traditions of Stanislavski and Vakhtangov, the so-called experiential theatre.

DAL’s vision is a theatre that produces a wide spectrum of repertoire in different styles and theatrical forms, but always taking into account how it relates to the challenges of today’s world and the human condition.

Our approach to productions takes three elements into consideration; the play, the audience and the actors. Firstly, we wish to honor both the playwright’s creative as well as their thematic intention in their work and, secondly, to find the theatrical form that is most suited to its content as well as to today’s audiences. In true Grotowskian spirit, our productions will be presented in intimate spaces for both audience and actors.

DAL wants to collaborate with artists from a wide spectrum of backgrounds; professionals, actors with no training but experience, or those who have no experience but great enthusiasm and talent for the theatre.

Our approach to rehearsals and productions is grounded in the philosophy that each actor has a unique artistic voice. During the rehearsal period actors will be guided and encouraged to bring their own individuality to their work on the role.

We believe in the power of the ensemble on stage. Therefore, our rehearsal process creates the required conditions for actors to grow and explore together to find a common language and creative collaboration.

For this purpose, DAL will also be a center for actors to continuously train and develop their artistry by offering workshops and courses based in the practices of the Stanislavski System and the Method.
